Design Thinking 101 is an ESC workshop that will provide a solution-based approach to solving problems. This workshop will help you understand what design think is and why you should use it to foster innovation in your nonprofit!

Design Thinking 101
According to Interaction Design Foundation, “Design Thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the user, challenge assumptions, and redefine problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding. At the same time, Design Thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It is a way of thinking and working as well as a collection of hands-on methods. Design Thinking revolves around a deep interest in developing an understanding of the people for whom we’re designing the products or services.”

In this 90 min workshop, you will learn:
- What is Design Thinking?
- The core Pillars to Design Thinking
- The five stages of Design Thinking and why they are important
- Examples of Social orgs using design thinking to better serve the customers, members, constituents, board member, fellow employee, etc
- Resources to get started
Kenyetta Hall comes from a diverse background that covers over 10 years working in contracts and grants related to both government and private sectors for both public and private sectors mainly in contract research organizations. Kenyetta made a pivot into business consulting and product management after receiving her MBA from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2016 and became a digital strategist at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. During her time, she created and researched new technologies and created strategic plans around ways we can engage members in digital spaces and how that relates to customer experience. She later worked on Blue Cross Blue shield of North Carolina’s mobile application where she was the business application expert who served as the liaison between the business and the integrated agile teams for the mobile application. While working at BCBSNC, she took on additional contracts with companies to build custom software applications. In September she fully transitioned to working for herself and started The Katalyst HQ, which partners with companies in product strategy, design, marketing and software development in order to create and launch customized digital products in the marketplace. In addition to being in tech, she works with service entrepreneurs as a business coach to help them scale their businesses.
Kenyetta currently serves on the Build to Last Committee which focuses on equity and inclusion in the city of Durham.
